in restaurants
In some restaurants, tipping is customary and has become expected in more recent times. However, tipping in other countries can be considered offensive and impractical. In the US, we sometimes hand our card to the server directly for payment, while in other countries, it is more respectful to keep the card on the table for the waiter to pick up. In restaurants, it is very important to know what kind of language to use when ordering (it can be considered rude to say “I want…” instead of “could I have…”) and know the menu quite well ahead of time, just in case there is no menu in your language or in the restaurant.
