Black Culture
Black culture is known for their unique blend and history of different musical styles, dance, and other forms of art.
Dance, music, and storytelling are heavily rooted in African culture. They have been passed down for generations and generations to come with the help of oral tradition.
Dance
Africa is known for its diversity and culture, and dance is one such example. Dance has been engrained in African society for centuries and serves as a way for people to express their personalities and emotions. Also, dances symbolize crucial points in one life, whether it be life, death, or becoming an adult. All of the dances have some sort of music accompanied. The music typically consists of vocals, instruments, or just a simple handclap to provide rhythm and liveliness to the dance.
Tribes have different dance styles and incorporate different music.
Music
When the Europeans arrived in Africa for the slave trade, Africans being brought to the colonies were able to preserve their culture. Music helped Africans come together and foster community especially during the era of slavery. As a result of the interaction between Europeans and Africans, musical styles from both of their cultures combine to create new musical genres. Jazz music is a clear example of the fusion of African and European music. The European harmony and African rhythm of the music come together to create a unique genre of music , which was played predominantly in the 1920s. It first originated in the 1890s in New Orleans, Louisiana.
